Obituary for Fern E. McClain

Georgetown, Indiana
Fern E. McClain, wife of Roy McClain, born into life September 19, 1932 left to be with her Lord for eternal life on March 26, 2018. She was a kind, gentle and giving person who loved her family and God. Everyone who knew Fern was blessed to know her gentle spirit and kind heart. Now it is time for her reward in the Kingdom of God for being a good and faithful servant. Her entire life was spent in the church and its ministry. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, a lifelong musician. She played her first performance at 4 years old at her church on Mother’s Day, and she assisted her father in evangelism with children at age 12. She was a music teacher for 60 years, teaching three generations of her students. She was joined in marriage with her loving husband Roy on July 29, 1952 in Lawrenceburg, KY. She supported her husband while he pursued his education in the ministry by working different jobs including the Herald Leader in Lexington, KY. Fern’s entire life was spent in the church and its ministry. Her father was a minister, her husband was minister and her grandson also serves in the ministry. She and her husband served in their ministry together for 65 years. Thirty-six of those years were spent at Georgetown Christian Church. She was an active participant in PTA while the children were young and mentored many young minister’s wives along the way. She was instrumental in bringing the first medical office to Georgetown. After retiring, she and Roy served 5 years as missionaries in Mexico, having served 37 years as forwarding agents for Mexican Christian Mission. She was preceded in death by her parents, C. Marion and Mazie M. McClure Railey; her daughter, Pamela Messer; sister, Roberta Pacheco and brother, Charles Railey. She is survived by her husband, Roy McClain of Georgetown, IN; two daughters, Deborah Larrick (Kenneth) of Hollansburg, OH and Lisa McClain Dawson (Ryan) of Jeffersonville, IN.; her sister, Mazie Railey of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funerals services will be at 11 AM Friday, March 30, 2018 at Georgetown Christian Church. Burial will be in Wolfe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 8 PM on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown and on Friday from 10 AM to 11 AM at Georgetown Christian Church. Fern’s family wishes to express their heart-felt gratitude for the loving care from Cindy Cooper. Memorial gifts may be made to Workers For Mexico in care of the funeral home.
