George Cathcart Webb, Sr. Obituary (1914

George Cathcart Webb, Sr., 100, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in a log cabin in Watertown, Wilson County, TN to the late William Thomas Webb and Ethel Lenna Cathcart Webb on January 21, 1914. George graduated from Cannon County High School (TN) in 1932 and attended the Jefferson School of Law in Louisville, KY. He married Marjorie Louise Gehlbach in Corydon, Indiana on February 6, 1944, three days before he shipped overseas in WWII. George served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 and was in Italy with the army's Ordnance Overseas Maintenance and Modification Group during WWII. Returning home in 1946 he and Marjorie lived in Louisville before moving to Jeffersontown, KY to raise four children. After Marjorie's passing in 1964 George married Ethel Purdy in 1970. George worked for the Federal Land Bank in Louisville, the General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Nashville, Goodyear in Charlestown, IN and the Alemite Grease Company in Louisville. George subsequently founded the Ewing and Webb Dairy with his business partner Dan Ewing in Jeffersontown, KY and then Hardin County Automotive Supply in Elizabethtown, KY, where he was president, and Shelby County Automotive Supply in Shelbyville, KY with his business partner T.W. Napier. George was a member of the Woodbury Baptist Church in Woodbury, TN and the Jeffersontown First Baptist Church in Jeffersontown, KY. He enjoyed making furniture, gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren. George is survived by his four children: William Alexander Webb of Chicago; Thomas Edward Webb of Dublin OH; George Cathcart Webb, II of Cincinnati, and Suzanne Webb Hinnefeld of South Bend, IN. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Matthew Webb, Marjorie Klette, Daniel Webb, Tyler Webb, Alexander Webb, Henry Hinnefeld and William Hinnefeld and by his loving in-laws Donna Wetzler, Jill Webb, Joy Webb and Jerry Hinnefeld. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, IN. Rev. Douglas Finney will be the officiant. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Corydon on Wednesday from 10 AM to the service at 12 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in George's memory.
