Edward C. Vaughn Obituary (1916

Laconia, Indiana Edward C. Vaughn, 96, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN under the care of Amedysis Hospice. He was born on December 5, 1916 in New York City, NY the son of Sidney and Anna Mealy Vaughn. He began working construction in 1960, contributing to the building of I64, the Matthew E. Welsh Bridge, and the installation of the original elevator in the Harrison County Court House among other projects. Mr. Vaughn was a Georgetown High School graduate and was a long time Laconia farmer, also being a member of the Laconia Grange. He was honored as a 50 year member of the Laborer's international Union of North America, Local 795, in March of 2011. He also attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon and belonged to the K of C. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of nearly 60 years, LaVern Stark Vaughn; daughter Judith Mattingly; brothers Meinard and Marvin Vaughn and sister Genevie Barnes. He is survived by his six children Two Sons- Jim Vaughn (Carol) of Winslow, IN Jeffrey Vaughn (Beth) of Fredericksburg, IN Four Daughters- Janice Bays and June King (Mike) both of Corydon, IN Jean Vaughn (Tom) of New Albany, IN JoAnn Jeffries (Morgan) of Louisville, KY He leaves fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the care and compassion provided by the staffs of Cedar Court Assisted Living in Corydon and Providence Retirement Home in New Albany and particularly Amedysis Hospice of Jeffersonville, IN. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2 PM 8 PM Friday, January 18, 2013 and after 8 AM Saturday at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. A rosary service will be at 7:30 PM Friday evening. Memorial gifts in his honor may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
