Stephen W. Whitaker Obituary (1943 - 2023)

Corydon, Indiana Stephen W. Whitaker, 80, a retired sergeant of the Indiana State Police, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was born January 2, 1943, in Rockport, IN. During his 32-year career with the Indiana State Police, Steve made significant contributions to the force. He was a dedicated and accomplished law enforcement officer who served with distinction. He was particularly proud of his service as a sergeant of the high-performance vehicle squad and as a member of the underwater search and recovery team. He was well-respected by his colleagues and was known for his unwavering commitment to duty and his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. He worked an additional 20 years after retiring from the ISP in 1998. Security at Caesars and retired again from French Lick Resort & Casino as Director of Security. He was preceded in death by his mother Sarah Ann Thurman Whitaker. He is survived by his wife, Jan Brothers Whitaker of 46 years, and together they had two children: Mia Miller and Matthew Whitaker. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Wyatt Edge, Jacklyn and Robert Miller, Castle, Palmer, Wells, Oakley, and Lex Whitaker.
