Maynard F. Lambertus Obituary (1932 - 2022)

Corydon, IN Maynard F. Lambertus, 90, passed away at Cedar Court Assisted Living in Corydon on October 31, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born on May 15, 1932, to Edwin and Emma Green Lambertus on the Green Homeplace in Posey Township of Harrison County. In 1938 the family moved to the Lambertus farm and homeplace two miles south of Lanesville. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong active member. After graduating from Lanesville High School, he joined the Air Force in 1951, and on September 7, 1952, he was married to Wilhelmina Barnickle at St. John's, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. In 1952 he was hired by Hurley Conrad of Conrad & Sons, Corydon, as head appliance technician, continuing employment there for more than 25 years. After that he started his own appliance service which he operated for another 20 years until he retired. In 1938, the family moved to the Lambertus homeplace on Hess-Jawtak Road where he farmed and raised beef cattle. At. St. John's, he served in several capacities, including trustee, school board president, elder, president of the congregation, and chairman of the cemetery board. For 30 years he was a member of the Lanesville Volunteer Fire Department, serving as assistant chief. He was elected to the board of directors of Harrison REMC, serving as chairman for many years. One of Maynard's proudest accomplishments if life, however, was being a founding member of the Lanesville Heritage Weekend in 1976. He began as vice-chairman and became chairman for 12 years. His main focus was preserving the agricultural history of the Lanesville areas and could always be found among the steam engines and threshing and shredding on his Allis-Chalmers tractor on the east end of the Heritage grounds. Survivors include his widow Wilhelmina (Willie), son, Mark Lambertus (Karen), daughter, Rhonda Owens, grandchildren, Zachary Lambertus, Melissa Lambertus, Andrea Villarubia, and great grandchildren, Max, and Druscilla. One brother, Parvin Lambertus, and a sister, Elinor Brown also survives. Maynard passed away at Cedar Court where he and his wife resided for the past two years. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lanesville, at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 4, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 8 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon and on Friday from 9 AM to the time of service at the church. The family suggests memorials be made to St. John's Cemetery Fund.
