Obituary for Maurice D. Melton

Maurice D. Melton, 82, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon. He was born December 10, 1932 in Mott Town, Indiana the son of Walter and Anna Stark Melton. Maurice married his sweetheart, Dora Garnell Timberlake on June 2, 1956. They made their home on Hill Street in Corydon, where they have lived for the last 62 years. He said the happiest day of his life was when his first daughter Jessica was born. He said when his twins Kim and Tim were born 4 years later, that he didn’t want anymore children when they started coming two at a time. He was an excellent woodworker and builder. He built cabinets for many of his friends and family. He was in management at Keller Manufacturing for 5 years, a timber buyer for Stem Veneer and Tri-state Veneer. He was the owner-operator of Double M Sales where he had his sawmill and salvage yard, retiring in 1999. He loved going to yard sales collecting hundreds of watches and clocks. He loved riding his scooter with his friends, Pat and Darrell. He covered many miles in many counties. He always looked forward to having a yearly yard sale where he would take customers into the garage and tell them, “Have I got a deal for you”. He loved making deals with his friend Weldon the best. He loved to fish. He went on many fishing trips with a friend from childhood, Norvel, and he loved going fishing with his son and granddaughter, Tim and Ashleigh. Maurice loved his grandchildren dearly and they loved him. All of the kids always looked forward to going to his house to eat “grandpa cookies”. He never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone. When our pastor, Mike would come to visit and tell him he loved him, dad would reply, “What’s not to love?” Of all the things that Maurice did, the best thing of all was that he was saved and had accepted the Lord as his Savior. He lived his life for Christ. He loved his church and church family with his whole heart. That was the greatest decision he ever made. He will be missed by so many people, but we know that he is in Heaven waiting for all of us. He is preceded in death by brothers, Bob, Granville, Lloyd and Billy Melton and sisters, Lula Mae and Geneva Melton. He is survived by his wife, Dora Garnell Timberlake Melton of Corydon; son, Timothy Melton (Jill) of Corydon; daughters, Jessica Brown (Travis) of Georgetown, IN and Kim Bates (Edgar) of Corydon; grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Kelly Weiland, Andrea Adkins, Jacob Melton, Ashleigh Melton, Sarah Wiley, Adam Bates and Megan Apple; great grandchildren, Keara Nance, Luke Weiland, Cole Brown, Frankie Adkins, William and Kimberly Melton, Colten Cotton, Trey Wiley, Sawyer, Shepherd and Royce Apple and Oliver Bates. Arrangements are being handled by Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Indiana. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 12 PM Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Community of Hope Church of the Nazarene in Corydon, IN. The family will be accepting friends and family at the church from 10 AM up until the service at 12 PM.
