Ila Ruth Simon Obituary (1927 - 2018)

Elizabeth, Indiana Ila Ruth Simon, 91, formerly of Elizabeth, died at Maple Manor Christian Home in Sellersburg, Indiana on June 28, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Raynold Simon, her sisters Vivian Houchin, Clella Griffis, Cornelia Patton, and her brother Raymond Bullock. Survivors are her daughters Denise (Harvey) Ellars and Susan McCampbell, her sisters Nelda Wheat and Carolyn Sanders, her brother Denzil Bullock, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. She was talented in gardening, sewing her children's school clothes, quilting, ceramics, crocheting, and various handicrafts. Her claim to fame was at a local craft show in Corydon where actor James Best, originally from Corydon, bought one of Ila's baskets for his mother for Mother's Day. Visitation will be Sunday, July 1, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, in Corydon. Burial will be private wih immediate family only. A celebration of Ila's life will be held later with extended family in Kentucky. The family wishes to thank Riverbend Assisted Living for care where Ila resided after she left her farm, for extended care for two years at Maple Manor Christian Home, and the Hosparus team of wonderful individuals who provided comfort and cared for Ila during her decline of life. Instead of flowers, her daughters suggest memorial donations in Ila's name be sent to Hosparus of Southern Indiana, 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
