Obituary for Samuel T. Swan

Samual Theodore Swan, 96, died peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters. Sam was born in Bicknell, IN to David and Leola Pocahontas Collier SWAN. Sam was a child of the great depression, he served in the (CCC ) Civilian Conservation Corps camps in Washington, Indiana. He was a World War II veteran. He was married to Mary Margaret Swan for 71 years and together they raised six children. ( Sandra Ellen Swan Drewry, Richard Garland Swan, Sheridan Lee Swan, Melissa K Swan, Kelly Sue Swan Birkla, and Beth Ann Swan Wilson) He was one of the founding members of Hayeswood Theater and also the first president of the first board of Chamber of Commerce in Crawford County, Indiana. He was a member of the Alcoholic Beverage Board in Crawford County, Indiana, the VFW and the American Legion, an elder in the Leavenworth Presbyterian Church, the Leavenworth postmaster, an accountant and owned his own tax service. He was a Democratic chairman for Crawford County and well known for his barbecue chicken. He was an avid Cubs fan till the moment he died. He was preceded in death by His beloved wife Mary, son Richard and granddaughter Carly Birkla.
He had 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
The Funeral Ceremony will be at Leavenworth Presbyterian Church at 1PM on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
Visitation will be at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, IN on Monday August 7, 2017 from 5PM to 8PM and at Leavenworth Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, 11AM-1PM with funeral following at 1:00.
The Swan Family suggests memorial donations be made to the Carly Marie Birkla Scholarship Fund in care of the Community Foundation of Crawford County.
