Paul Eugene Eckart, 91, passed away on January 22, 2018, with his loving wife, Winnona, by his side. He was born on October 8, 1926, in Dogwood, IN to the late Smith and Marguerite Bacherms Eckart. Paul retired from the The Farmers’ Store (John Deere) after 42 years. He was an Army World War II veteran proudly serving his country in the Philippines and Korea, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on various committees. Paul and his friend, the late Pete Hanson, enjoyed making and completing many woodworking projects for the church and St. Joseph School. Paul loved watching men’s and women’s college basketball as well as western movies. He loved his beagle hounds and spent many evenings listening to them run through the wooded areas in Harrison county. Paul’s greatest pleasure was watching his family members participate in their various sporting events. He enjoyed the many hours spent in his woodworking shop. Family and friends cherish the personal items which he crafted and made. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Eckart. Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Winnona Fay Lang Eckart; his sons, Sam (Becky) of Corydon, and John (Judy) of Greenwood, IN; his grandchildren, Kyle (Renee) Eckart, Darcy Eckart, Pam Eckart, Lisa (Ben) Ruble and Sarah (Ben) Waltz. Paul is also survived by his ten great-grandchildren, Maila, Ava, Mattie, Solomon, Leah, Allison, Logan, Annika, Aubree and Emerson. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11 AM on Thursday, January 25, 2018, with burial at St. Joseph Church Cemetery. There will be Military Rites at the grave. Visitation will be at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon from 12 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 24 and on Thursday from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. Expressions of sympathy may be made to his church or to St. Joseph School.
