Obituary for Nancy Elizabeth Jackson

Corydon, Indiana
Nancy Elizabeth Gatton Jackson, 79, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Kindred Health and Rehabilitation Center-Harrison. She was born at home in Lousivlle, Ky on March 6, 1938 the daughter of David and Bertha Gatton. She was the last of the children of David and Bertha. Nancy graduated from Southern High School in 1956. A few years later she enrolled in Lindsay Wilson College where she attended 2 years with help from her church. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1968. There were times when Nancy had to work from Sept. to May to have enough money to go to school. Nancy and Ed met in April and married in November of 1966. Last year, they celebrated 50 years together.
Although they did not have children of their own, they spoiled many of their friends’ children. Nancy accepted the Lord in her early teens. She often taught Sunday School and worked with Vacation Bible School.
Nancy used her education to teach school. She taught first grade in the Jefferson County School System in Kentucky, and after moving to Indiana in 1973, substituted in the Floyd County elementary schools.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Ed; two granddaughters, four great granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 24 at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will be Thursday at 10 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
